Bonnie + Julio’s Proposal at Ko’Olina Hawaii

 

It’s no doubt that Hawaii is one of the best places someone can choose for a surprise proposal. And when the surprise proposal includes bringing in the rest of the family as well, the whole vibe just changes! This is what Bonnie experienced when Julio surprised her with a romantic proposal on the beach at Paradise Cove in Ko’Olina. He planned everything so perfectly and chose me as the proposal photographer. I’ve done surprise proposals in the past and expected to document some emotional moments with this couple too, and that’s exactly what I got!

When Julio surprised Bonnie with a proposal, she had no idea that he was going to do that or that their families were flying in from California to celebrate this day with them. Plus, thanks to Julio’s immaculate planning, all of them were dressed up in yellow and white. I loved Bonnie’s reaction to the whole thing. She was so surprised and couldn’t contain her excitement. These reactions are so precious and genuine, and photographing them is an absolute delight for me. With such raw and authentic expressions, I hardly need my models to pose for the photos. 

 

Although some couples want their proposals to just be about the two of them, it was clear to me that Bonnie and Julio wanted to share this joy with their families. And the family’s excitement showed me that they wouldn’t have had it any other way or miss the chance to be there. It was also great to see how both families pretty much turned into one big family as they came together for Bonnie and Julio.  

 

Bonnie was such an adorable bride-to-be! She hugged EVERYONE after the proposal. I loved taking candids of the couple and their family because there was just so much happening, and everyone was so happy. For me, these are the moments that I can’t miss out on and when I really get to make magic through my camera. Besides the surprise moment, one of my favorite photos has to be the one with both families waving their hands in the air. 

 

After the celebration with their families, I sneaked my couple away for some romantic portraits. I also took some detail photos of the ring in its case and also on Bonnie’s finger, and I must admit, Julio has excellent taste!

Julio, I can’t laud you enough for planning this proposal so flawlessly. Bonnie, it was such a joy to see your reaction and photograph you. I hope you continue to smile and laugh and celebrate like that for years to come. Julio and Bonnie, I had a lovely time being your photographer and had so much fun meeting your whole family. I was so happy to see you both being adored and supported by so many people. I am looking forward to working with you both again!
