Cliff photography in Hawaii can be quite an amazing experience. The sparkling blue waters, lovely green patches, beautiful rocks, a gorgeous sky, and the mesmerizing effect of weathering on cliffs make for breathtaking backgrounds for photography. I got a chance to capture these natural wonders into my camera yet again at Christine and Hezh’s elopement. My couple’s Oahu cliffside adventure elopement was a celebration that I will never forget. Christine and Hezh had their hearts set on having their ceremony on an epic cliffside – and so they did. Located on Oahu’s southeast shore on Kalanianaole Highway, the Makapu’u Lookout and Lanai Lookout were a part of my couple’s celebration. Everyone in attendance was so excited and happy. I also enjoyed the sweet and intimate celebration and loved creating all the stunning portraits against picturesque backgrounds.

 

Oahu Cliffside Elopement Photography

 

My couple, Christine and Hezh, grew up in Hawaii and now practice medicine here. They decided to have a Zoom wedding overlooking one of their favorite beaches and invited their immediate family. Some of their other family members – brother from Boston and parents from Taiwan – joined the celebration via Zoom. It was such a sweet and simple wedding ceremony, and I loved how my couple had sparkling toasts on the cliffside with their family.

After their wedding ceremony, they walked down to Lanai Lookout to get some romantic couples shots at sunset. Woah! The golden lighting was mind-blowing, and seeing my lovely couple so happy and comfortable was such a joy! The smiles on their faces lit up the whole environment and made the images livelier. The bridal bouquet and my groom’s boutonniere added an impressive pop of color to the images. 

They looked so perfect together as they walked hand in hand, embraced each other, and kissed. I loved to see how they enjoyed quality time and were lost in each other’s love without the pressure of honoring a tight wedding timeline or having too many guests to attend. This is the best part about elopements, and when you do it at ethereal locations such as the Makapu’u Lookout and Lanai Lookout, you can have all the liberty of not just making your special day all about your partner and yourself but also to soak in the wonderful vibes of your surroundings on your big day.

Christine and Hezh were so natural in front of the camera that I barely had to give out any posing instructions. In fact, their candid shots turned out to be looking so romantic and dreamy with brilliant backdrops of the cliff. As a photographer, it was a refreshing and enjoyable workday for me.
